Spaces for Hire
We have a large foyer area available for events such as cocktail functions, concerts and dinners. There are also four exhibition areas for hire in the City Gallery - the East and West Galleries on the ground floor and the North and South galleries on the first floor. Although usually food and drink cannot be taken into the galleries we are able to hire these out in addition to the foyer for viewing. The Foyer and the Galleries are available for functions mornings and evenings outside our opening hours (10am-5pm) and we recommend giving at least an hour for set up. The City Cinema can be hired during the day and evenings.
The Foyer
The Foyer is a striking place, which features a spacious floor area. It is an ideal space for cocktail functions, sit-down dinners or even a concert. It is possible to hire the Foyer along with the East or West Gallery or both.
Room Capacity: 80 seated for dinners, 150 cocktail party
Availability: Outside the hours of 10am-5pm
The foyer does not usually contain artworks.
West Gallery
The West Gallery is situated to the left of the Foyer on the ground floor and is able to be hired alongside the foyer to view the exhibition on display. Depending on the current set up it can also be used for presentations although no food or drink can be taken in.

East Gallery
The East Gallery is situated to the right of the Foyer on the ground floor and is able to be hired alongside the foyer to view the exhibition on display. Depending on the current set up it can also be used for presentations although no food or drink can be taken in.

Availability: Outside the hours of 10am-5pm
South Gallery
The largest of the four galleries, the South Gallery runs across the full width of the building and is able to be hired alongside the foyer to view the exhibition on display. Depending on the current set up it can also be used for presentations although no food or drink can be taken in.

North Gallery
Adjoined to the atrium, the North Gallery is the most intimate of the four galleries and alongside the foyer can be opened up for private viewings.

City Cinema
In recognising the importance of the moving image in contemporary visual arts, the City Gallery houses a fully furnished and equipped cinema and lecture theatre. With seating for 135 people, the cinema has 16mm and super 35mm film projectors as well as Super VHS and U-matic video projection equipment and full Dolby Stereo systems. The cinema is available for hire by organisations with an interest in promoting film and video in Wellington. It is an ideal venue for small film festivals. With its large 6 metre screen and comfortable tiered seating is also an excellent venue for presentations and product launches for the corporate sector as well as a suitable space for lectures and forums.
